  1. The first one (about being born in different timezones) is only correct if you ignore GMT/UTC. All timezones derive from that, so if you know your time of birth and location, you can convert it to GMT for your “absolute” date of birth.

    1. Wut? Absolute date of birth. You mean to tell me that my birth date might not be my actual birth date????

Your comment made my brain record-scratch more than any of the TGD posts this week.

    2. That’s not what we do, though. I was born at 11:58pm EDT on December 1st. My birthday is December 1st, even though it was December 2nd at GMT.

    3. All of our birthdays are artificial constructs. Birthdays and age are two different things. If two babies have the same due date and one is born premature, the premature one will always be considered older even though he or she has existed for the same amount of time as the fully gestated one.

    4. I was born in the GMT time zone. Not sure if I’m glad that I already know my ‘absolute’ date of birth, or sad that I don’t get two birthdays 🙁

  2. My daughter and one of her friends were born an nearly the same moment. But one was in Alabama and the other in China, so the Chinese one has a birthday on the 24th and the Alabamian’s is on the 23rd.

  3. Sure, time zones are confusing, but we should ALL be grateful that along with standardized shipping containers the world can at least agree on two universal standards.

    We can’t agree on:
    -Units of Measurement
    -Calendars
    -Electrical Standards
    -Traffic Laws
    -Patents
    -Human Rights
    -Currency

But at least we have shipping containers and 24 hour days.

    Oh, wait.

India banned a version of Windows because it included a region of Pakistan in its time zone options.

Okay, at least we have shipping containers.

  4. [email protected] says:

    Dear got-stars-in-your-eyes,
Your kid is dumb. Four hour car ride home. Feh!

  5. Ok, slam poetry can really be beautiful, and it doesn’t have to rhyme.
So many people share their stories using slam poetry and for some people its the only way to voice their emotions.
    I respect your opinion though.
