  1. Sorry to spoil the Wicked Catholics meme, but Copernicus died peacefully in his sleep, aged 70. You could, you know, look it up.

    1. But the Catholic Church did threaten to burn him at the stake if he didn’t retract. So the meme is correct.

      1. I cannot find a single source that says Copernicus was threatened by the Catholic Church. Galileo and Bruno, yes, but not Copernicus.

        1. Also, let’s be clear that the Church officially didn’t oppose Galileo because they believed in geocentrism, but because he couldn’t fully prove the heliocentric position perfectly yet and he chose to propose it as scientific fact. It takes confirming the stellar parallax to accurately confirm that the heliocentric position and it would take a few more centuries for that to occur with better technology.

    2. I don't recall apoplexy (bleeding within internal organs) being all that peaceful of a condition. says:

      Or paralysis. Especially combined.

    3. The Catholic Church totally did threaten to hipster microwave the guy. That is why he said “no” to their question.

      1. You can also wave your hand like a Jedi at automatic doors. I started doing this as a joke once, and now it’s an unconscious habit.

  2. Question: where do I go to forget
Answer: a bar. Oddly enough, just like the next post.

And this was an amazing Tumblr Goes Deep.
