  1. Okay, posts like “the US is unreal” are the kinds of things that give me the eerie feeling of sympathizing more and more with a conservative point of view, even as I continue to self-identify as liberal.

Like, okay, those things that you listed are all problems, but it’s still a pretty good country. Sure, SOME girls in SOME localities might get suspended for wearing shorts to school, but NO girls anywhere in the US would be stoned by their communities. And in 2017, you’re pretty unlikely to lose your job simply for being gay. And racial violence is still a problem, but it’s not freaking Birmingham in the 60s. We’ve made a lot of progress and while I recognize that we have a lot further to go, it’s kind of ridiculous to ridicule “old, white people” for occasionally saying something positive like “what a beautiful country.”

    1. And I don’t think that person knows what ‘regularly’ means. I love Tumblr for the humor, but when those kind of people show up and then receive praising comments, it’s very unfortunate. There’s still a lot of work to be done but you can’t deny it’s pretty much the best it’s ever been for every demographic, Trump or not.

      1. It is not the best it’s ever been for every demographic ever. How can you even fix your fingers to type that? How out of touch do you have to be?
Let’s see… Women are steadily losing access to reproductive health rights; the economy tanked so hard under bush that a quarter of late 20 year olds still live at home; immigrants (even legal ones) are now in danger of being unceremoniously barred or removed from this country simply because of their country of origin.
Those are just three demographics NOT doing better than ever that I thought of off the top of my head just now. But by all means fail to acknowledge anyone who isn’t a white, straight, cis, Christian male.

        1. Well said Ridiculous. We might not be stoned.. but 1 in 4 women will experience severe domestic violence in their lifetime. A rape is reported every 5 min in the US. Reports say that the current President is planning to remove funding for the Office of Violence Against Women. And hey… I read below – I vote – every damn time.. mid years too.

          1. That is a list of things that all used to be worse. We have progressed to the point where we are actually aware of these things and recognize them as being wrong. Did anyone five years ago even use the word “cis” other than organic chemists? Sure, this presidential election has seen us take a step back, but only after taking 3 steps forward in the usual pattern. As for the economy, the 90s were not normal. They were a bubble. Hell, everything since WWII has been pretty unsustainable in the US. Steady 2% per year growth is about right, rather than boom and bust cycles.

    2. The problem is that it is still that way and now more than ever Republicans are trying to keep it that way or take us back to the 60s. What do you think MAGA really means? Remember, this was Reagan’s slogan as well. What do you think he meant back then?

Fact is that too many old white men, you know like the ones with all the power riggt now, think women belong at home, that being anything other than straight is an affliction or disease and that all minorities are criminals.

All that post did is point out how things are, that women still get treated differently based on their sex, gays can be fired openly and without repercussions in a lot of places, and cops repeatedly kill unarmed black children. Meanwhile, old white men like the ones in power don’t give a shit because they aren’t subject to that and are blissfully ignorant.

It was nothing more than someone posting something. So, get over yourself.

      1. Fact is all those “old white men” in power were elected. If you don’t like it go vote. All the old white men in power I know all have many very smart successful women on their staffs. Also, the current POTUS was the first elected President to have a woman campaign manager.
Also, please share where gays can be fired openly without repercussions. I would like to point these places out to my congressWOMAN so she can address this.
        Get over yourself.

        1. Challenge accepted!

States in the U.S. where a person can be fired for being gay without legal repercussions:
Alaska, Idaho, Arizona, Montana, Colorado, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Missouri, Arkansas, Louisiana, Michigan, Indiana, Kentucky, Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama, Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida.

Please share with your CongressMAN or CongressWOMAN.

          1. In all honesty, I really had no idea regarding LBGTQ and I agree that is outrageous. I live in a very lib area and my little bubble protects me I guess. Thanks for the reality check
BUT (uh oh, apology too good to be true, right) the Old White Guy thing really bugs me, isn’t that racist to judge someone who has been duly elected and is doing a job for their citizens just because their age/race? I really like and appreciate my old white guys that serve as my governor and my state assemblyman and currently my mayor.
Finally, the last place I want to fight is on PJ! I love this site and certainly never wanted to make an enemy of my fellow PJers!
So agree to disagree? And thanks for making me think about things.
            Peace Out

    3. In some parts of the us you are not even allowed to collect rain water! You can definitely activity discriminate against people for being trans. Police will shoot at you for walking on the grass. The president is a game show host. Members of the security council give, not even sell secrets to mother Russia! Pretty unlikely is not the same as it can’t happen. Being slightly better than some unnamed place that stones people is nothing to write home about. Being not quite Birmingham in the 60s almost 50 years later is frankly shit. And.. omg there are hundreds of more things.

      1. “The president is a game show host.”
This seems like the best description of Mr Tiny Hands Drumpf that I have ever seen.

      2. Yeah, if you want to claim greatness, you need to be able to list the *merely good* things you are better than, not the *terrible* things.

      3. Liberal policies are the reason for rainwater collection fines. There is no place where you can actively discriminate for people being trans. No police will shoot you for walking on the grass. The president was a game show host. Not a single member of the security coucil has given or sold secrets to russia. Nothing you wrote is true. Where do you get your
        information national enquirer?

        1. “There is no place where you can actively discriminate for people being trans.”

Not familiar with Indiana or North Carolina, eh?

        2. Have you not been reading the game show host proclamations since he became president? Maybe you didn’t watch and news this week a young girl draged to the ground by off duty cop who fired his weapon. Your national security advisor removed less than a month in the job. Soto watching fox news not even Wikipedia accept them as real news.

      1. The Westboro “Baptists” (they’re not even that) wouldn’t have enough physical strength to pick up an actual stone.

    4. As a queer person, these kinds of statements always baffle me. Do you have any idea that it is flat out unsafe to be queer in some places?

      1. Your life and happiness aren’t important to them. They don’t care about you. They are selfish and narrow-minded. But keep fighting. The arc of history is long, but it bends towards justice.

    5. Right? It’s not a perfect country but it’s still pretty damn better than a lot of other countries.

I’m really tired of whiny-ass teenagers on tumblr complaining they can’t wear shorts that their buttcheeks are falling out of to school. Just go to Target or whatever and buy yourself some shorts that actually meet the dress code and stfu.

    6. You’re going to become a conservative because some people with whom you don’t fully identify are unsatisfied with their quality of life and want it to be better? Please think about your principles and why you have them.

  2. I always liked the Webcomic Wonderella when “evil” versions arrived. Except Wonderella is kind of a bitch so her opposite is exactly like her.
So in the background evil SHARKMAN is fighting good SHARKMAN while both Wonderellas are drinking shots.

  3. Can’t this website’s comment section return to being full of quirky characters like Ike and not an unmoderated version of reddit kthxbye
