Mac Miller’s Friend Opened Up About How ‘Incredible’ Ariana Grande Was During His Battle With Sobriety

On September 7th, reports broke that rapper and producer Mac Miller had died of an apparent drug overdose. He was 26.
Immediately following the news of his death, fans on social media were quick to attack Miller’s ex-girlfriend, Ariana Grande. The two broke up in May after rumors spread that Grande could not handle Miller’s substance abuse problems. Following their breakup, Miller crashed his car and was charged with a DUI. Fans blamed Grande for that, too.

At the time, Grande responded to fans and followers attacking her and blaming her with a powerful message.

When fans began to blame Grande for Miller’s overdose–due to her quick engagement to fiancé Pete Davidson–Grande disabled comments on her Instagram account. She did, however, pay a touching tribute to her ex of two years with a black-and-white photo.

A good friend of Mac Miller’s, Shane Powers, has now spoken out about Miller’s death and the situation between him and Ariana Grande on his podcast, The Shane Show. Speaking about Grande, Powers said:

“I have to say she was incredible when he was first sobering up,” Shane began. “There could not have been anybody more supportive of him being sober than Ariana. I saw that, I was around it, I took phone calls from her – ‘How do I help, what do I do?’”

Powers did, however, say he disagreed with her speedy engagement to Davidson–which, is fair, seeing as he is a good friend of Miller’s…it’s only normal that he’d be on his side of the situation. However, he did go on to say that Grande was nothing but supportive and her key priority was always “keeping Mac healthy.”
