Have you ever been looking at an everyday object and start to see a face, shape, or image in the object? It’s not as rare as you think. In fact, there’s even a word for it.
Pareidolia.
Essentially, pareidolia is “a psychological phenomenon in which the mind responds to a stimulus, usually an image or a sound, by perceiving a familiar pattern where none exists.” Basically, you see things in objects that aren’t really there, but it’s your mind playing tricks on you to see something you’ve already seen and know. And, with the use of cell phones and cameras, people are able to photograph pareidolia when they experience it on the spot.
