This Aquarium Picks The “Naughtiest Penguin” Of Each Month And They’re All Guilty Of Being Adorable

The tradition of honoring an “Employee of the Month” has become a bit of a sad cliché as it’s basically praise for being an efficient cog in an often ugly corporate machine. When applied to animals goofing around, however, it’s another story.

The National Aquarium of New Zealand has made a splash (forgive me) by taking the concept and using it to honor their animal residents– specifically their penguins.

The popular “Penguin of the Month” award has two categories, “Naughty” and “Good,” where the notable penguins are named and shamed and have their acts of virtue or vice clearly documented below in framed photographs.

The results are as funny as you would expect. Check out some of these winners.

There’s the dastardly Mr. Mac who was shamed for stealing food from his blind girlfriend like a cad. Whereas his opposite, Dora, would voluntarily waddle her way into the monthly weigh-in like the upstanding penguin she is.

There are lazy butts like Mo, who doesn’t swim enough, and good bois like Timmy who don’t throw sand.

Then there’s Tux and Elmo, who got called out for penguin-on-penguin bullying and for being an early riser, respectively.

And let’s give it up for Lulu and Pepper. Lulu is a an ungrateful brat while Pepper sounds like an amazing life partner to her bird-man.

There’s Dave, who needs to keep his beak to himself, and Burny who has truly excellent preening. Really, you have to see this guy’s preening. The. Best.

Wow Mo…back on the naughty list again? Really? Get it together Mo. And good work Captain, you get a flipper bump for your inspiring personal development.

In case you think these awards are all fun and games, think again. One lucky penguin also gets crowned Penguin of the Year like Timmy here. So put that in your craw and slurp it.
