During Monday’s episode of Jeopardy, a contestant shared a kind message of support for Alex Trebek. This caused the normally unflappable host to tear up.
In the “Final Jeopardy” round, the contestants were asked to name an 1890 exposé about poverty in New York. As Trebek went to read contestant Dhruv Gaur’s response he saw the message “We love you, Alex!”

In March Trebek announced he had been diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer. At 74-years-old, he completed treatment and returned to his hosting duties.
Gaur and the other contestants were told right before taping on Monday that Trebek would soon be reentering cancer treatment.
“We were all hurting for him so badly,” Gaur tweeted, “When Final Jeopardy came up, I could’ve tried to puzzle it together, but really, just kept thinking about Alex, and thought he should know.”
👏👏👏
Couldn’t have said it better ourselves, Dhruv! #WeLoveYouAlex pic.twitter.com/JPpXjF2ifZ— Jeopardy! (@Jeopardy) November 12, 2019
Trebek called on Gaur first after it was time to answer Final Jeopardy.
“Dhruv, you’re smiling. I like that. Let’s take a look at your response. Did you come up with the right one? No? What is, ‘We love you, Alex,'” Trebek said, choking up. “That’s very kind of you. Thank you.”
Then, in normal Trebek fashion, he pulled it together and finished up the show like a pro.

You probably noticed contestants wearing purple ribbons. These are in support of pancreatic cancer awareness. The contestant have also organized a fundraiser where fans are encouraged to donate $1 for every correct answer.
I’m just very grateful I got the opportunity to say what I know everyone was thinking. Sending all the love. #weloveyoualex

I think I speak for everyone when I say I wish Alex Trebek a speedy recovery and thank him for all of his years hosting a really great show. He’s one of the few celebrities we have that has never been anything but kind and professional. We love you, Alex.
