These Anonymous “Post Secrets” Are A Gut Punch, But Worth Your Time, I Promise (25 Pics)

For the last 16 years, people all over the world have been sending mail to a home in Germantown, Maryland. Strangers send postcards with their own secrets written on them to Frank’s address. The owner of the mailbox and founder of Post Secret, Frank Warren, has been emptying the mailbox every Sunday to find collections of postcards, wedding bands, engagement rings, razor blades, and other objects in addition to the secrets to add to his archive.

Frank says the two most popular Secrets he receives are “I pee in the shower” and some say that the person wishes they had a real person to tell their secrets to. There are many apps and sites that are similar to this project now, as the world is much different than when it first started in 2004. There was no Twitter, Instagram, and the iPhone didn’t even exist yet.

(And yes, we know this is a little more serious than the normal PJ stuff but we thought it was cool and wholesome and nice so…)

If you are interested in sharing a secret, the instructions and new address are below.

When Frank Warren started the project he was hoping to receive 365 postcards. He has received more than a million from around the world. PostSecret now has live events in multiple books as a result of the many postcards he has received. After receiving many secrets about people’s struggle with suicide, Post Secret has led to one of the world’s most comprehensive suicide prevention wikis and $1 million in donations to Suicide Prevention hotlines.

One of the most interesting things about Post Secret is that secrets that arrive in Frank’s mailbox seem to be universal. Although these are coming from different countries and continents, they’re all expressing similar secrets about heartbreak and possibly even hope. Many people are hiding the same thing.
