A viral Twittter thread started by @oldredtree had people sharing their run-ins with robbers who turned out to actually be pretty polite. Some people told the robber they needed something out of their wallet or even had their stolen items returned when they asked for them back. It’s not exactly a sweet fairytale story since they’re afraid for their lives, but still sweet nonetheless, right?
These stories aren’t surprising when you learn that most crimes are because of someone’s social class, and working class people are more likely to commit crimes than middle class individuals. Of course there are always outliers in any statistic, but why would someone mug someone just for the fun of it? These people definitely needed money but it didn’t make them inhumane.
Reflecting on the surprise of a pretty reasonable person robbing you definitely makes for a good Twitter thread.
