There’s nothing more embarrassing than being caught in a lie. It’s even worse when it’s an elaborate lie that took a lot of work, and then it blows up in your face.
To be fair, I think a harmless and well-crafted lie is impressive. If you make up an entire story for a book report you forgot to do, that’s more hard work than actually reading a book. I think some credit should be given in those cases.
Author Séamas O’Reilly tweeted a hilarious thread about an essay he stayed up all night to write, but the assignment didn’t go exactly according to plan.
