A New Halloween TikTok Challenge Has Chickens Carving Pumpkins

Halloween is on October 31st, but on TikTok, it’s been going on for a few weeks now.

TikTokers have been celebrating the spooky season all month by sharing their cool costumes and creepy pranks, but the latest trend involving poultry and pumpkins on the platform is rather interesting.

People are putting a new spin on pumpkin carving by using chickens. Yes, you read that correctly. Chickens.

In a now-viral video, TikTok user @Lissieasebes took to TikTok in late September to share a tip she learned about pumpkin carving.

“So, someone in my chicken group on Facebook said if you start a pumpkin just a little bit the chickens will continue to eat on it and carve it.” She went on, “So let’s see what kind of pumpkin my chickens carve. Here we go!”

“Let’s see what happens! Day one!”

In a few follow-up videos, @LissieAsebes shared her results. After the first day, she reveals the chickens had started carving but didn’t get very far. She then revealed the progress over four days and they actually turned out pretty good.

Since posting the original video, she’s tested this method using the squirrels in her yard. The results were not as impressive.

After going viral, several other chicken owners tried the same method. Some had better results than others.

The official TikTok for the Agua Hadionia Lagoon in Carlsbad, Calif., gave it a shot but used a different method than the original video.

They poked large holes in the shape of a face resembling a jack-o-lantern rather than making the small indentation like that in the original video.

Three large hens got to work on the pumpkin, pecking away at their work of art. Pretty interesting to watch, unless you suffer from trypophobia.

One viewer commented, “There’s a phobia for this, and I’m icking!”

Another agreed, “Yes! Skin crawled so bad!”

So if you have come chickens, your pumpkin carving just got a lot easier this year.
