A well-known cafe in New York City is being roasted online after a customer noticed they were selling a $29 dollar ham and cheese sandwich.
EAT, that fancy spot on the Upper East Side run by restauranter Eli Zabar, caused a stir when somebody posted a pic of their pricey ham and cheese sandwich on the r/nyc subreddit.
“$29 Ham And Cheese Sandwich”
The Redditor said they saw it while wandering around the UES while their family member was getting surgery at HSS, and it’s at Eli Zabar’s place on Madison between 80/81st.
The ham and cheese sandwich, which came pre-packed, looked like a typical sandwich you’d find in any old grocery store refrigerator along with other grab-n-go lunch items (including a $24 egg salad sandwich). However, what commenters noticed the most was that it was made with “health” bread, which obviously contributed to the $29 dollar price tag.
As frustrating as this is to see how out of hand the store’s prices are, the image had folks online up in arms and they did not hold back in the comments.
