Dick’s Sporting Goods Catches Heat Online After Image Of Store’s Dumpster Contents Goes Viral

In a world where consumerism often takes center stage, the impact of our throwaway culture becomes painfully evident when we consider the wasteful practices of some big companies. It’s disheartening to learn that instead of extending a helping hand to those in need, these corporations opt for the cheapest and easiest way to dispose of their excess merchandise: by throwing it away. This heartbreaking reality shines a spotlight on the disconnection between corporate profit-driven motives and the compassionate responsibility to support communities and individuals facing hardships.

Recently, Dick’s Sporting Goods has caught some heat for an photo of one of their dumpsters that went viral on the r/DumpsterDiving subreddit. In this dumpster were dozen of broken golf clubs.

The caption reads: “I will never give this company a penny in my life. Opened it up and 100ish new golf clubs they destroyed. Could have given them to a charity, the boys and girls club, anything but no broken. 💔”

The original poster followed up by letting people know they salvaged many of the putters and handles, so it wasn’t a COMPLETE waste.

Unfortunately, many big companies dispose of old inventory this way because it’s cheaper than trying to reduce the price and resell.
