As a 43-year-old skateboarder with infinitely more dedication than skill, I have the unique honor of routinely eating s**t on simple tricks, but still showing up at the skate park with a smile and aching bones. (True story, as I write this I’m lying in bed nursing a nasty hipper and wrist sprain after botching a pretty mellow tail stall.)
But that’s the beautiful thing about skateboarding— it isn’t just about nailing the perfect ollie or kickflip or becoming the next Tony Hawk; it’s about the ride, the culture, and yes, the hilarious fails that turn into memes.
Skateboarding is more than a hobby, it’s a lifestyle, often misjudged and stereotyped, but ultimately, it’s an unparalleled community. Despite my comical lack of coolness and skill, I adore the camaraderie and respect within the world of skateboarding.
