For a long time, my impression of Elon Musk was that I didn’t really know him, and it seemed like he’d done some impressive things, so maybe he was a bright guy. But then he bought Twitter, and, suffice it to say, my opinion is now a little more negative.
Yesterday Musk revealed a massive twist to Twitter’s identity – the beloved bird logo was to be benched, and in its stead, a mammoth X, representing “the unique quirks that make us all human,” as per Musk’s tweet.
That was when he officially lost me.
The transformation was swift. By the early morning of July 24, 2023, Twitter enthusiasts were greeted by the behemoth X, bidding farewell to the iconic bird that had been a part of the platform since 2006 (although Musk did promise in a Tweet that it would happen yesterday, not today, I digress.)
Twitter’s reigning CEO, Linda Yaccarino, expressed her excitement in a tweet, extolling the rare opportunity to create a “second massive impression.” She declared, “Twitter revolutionized communication. X will take it a step further, redefining the global conversation hub.”
She further illustrated X as the future playground of limitless interaction, incorporating audio, video, messaging, banking, and more, thus forging a universal bazaar for concepts, commodities, services, and prospects. She added the futuristic X will be AI-enabled.
The abrupt logo revamp left a wave of puzzled reactions across the user base, and of course, led to some hilarious memes. Here are some of the best jokes at the expense of Elon, and X (formerly the artist known as Twitter.)
