The bustling atmosphere, clinking glasses, and cheerful chatter often set the perfect stage for some behind-the-scenes mischief at bars. While most bartenders are honest professionals, a sneaky few have developed crafty methods to line their pockets, often at the establishment’s expense.
Recently one bartender, Michelle (@michellebellex), shared some of the sly ways bartenders steal from the bar in this now viral Tiktok.
Cheaping out on the liquor quality.
“Let’s say you order a Tito’s and soda. Instead of pouring the $8 shot of the brand-name vodka, the bartender will pour the $5 house vodka. When the customer pays $10 in cash (including a $2 tip), the bartender pockets $5 instead of $2.”
Giving out “free” beer.
Counting those free beers off your till at the end of the night can add up.
Fake dine-and-dasher.
That’s an easy $50 right there.
Shorting customer drinks.
“Really that one’s not stealing from the bar, that’s stealing from all of the customers you short-poured.”
Screwing over your co-worker.
If you are stealing from the register, everything is still getting divided up evenly later. You are stealing form your coworkers.
