In the land of opportunity and dreams, there’s an unsettling truth that often goes unnoticed amidst the grandeur of the American dream—the broken state of our education system.
In this post, we’re about to shine a spotlight on a critical issue that’s been silently eroding the foundation of our nation: the alarming number of children who fall through the cracks without ever mastering the fundamental skill of reading.
Recently, one music teacher shared her eye-opening experience teaching 6th, 7th, and 8th graders, some of whom don’t know the alphabet.
“Our students cannot read at grade level.”
“As a music teacher, I didn’t really think I had a whole lot to add to this conversation. But I don’t think a lot of y’all understand how much this is affecting them in every single course they are taking.”
“A lot of these kids would not even use alphabet symbols. They would be making up symbols.”
@teresakayenewman Too many middle schoolers dont even know the first 7 letters of the alphabet, much less know how to read and write. Thats a problem. #teacher #musicteacher
