A certified career coach is sounding the alarm about placing unwavering trust in managers, colleagues, or the positions they hold.

The topic of trust within the workplace and how to handle it has arisen from TikToker Terry Jones (@trainerterryjones). It all started with a response to a prompt from Rachel Pedersen, who asked, “What’s one mistake you learned the hard way that you can now help people to avoid?”

In reply, Jones stated, “Blindly trusting the people that you work with.”

Jones goes on to provide further insight, emphasizing, “Do not trust your manager, the job, or the company to do anything that they say they’re going to do unless it’s in writing.”

In a caption, he imparts more guidance on placing trust within your workplace and among your colleagues, stating, “In today’s professional world, remember: Trust, but verify. Collaborate, but protect your interests. Your colleagues and managers might mean well, but actions speak louder than words. Always seek written documentation for important agreements. It’s not just about distrust; it’s about being prudent and safeguarding your career.”
