’90s Kids Are Sharing Their Nostalgia For Things That Were Normal 30 Years Ago But Are Now Long Gone
As a millennial who was born in the early 1980s, I had the opportunity to experience significant cultural changes, with the most notable being the rise of the internet.
While my childhood was internet-free, as I grew older I discovered both the benefits and drawbacks of the World Wide Web.
Initially, I had to rely on dial-up internet to access it. The distinctive sound of dial-up internet starting up and the anticipation that came with it is just one of the many experiences that today’s youth will never know.
A recent thread on Reddit, started by user u/Apart-Scale, discussed many other norms that have become extinct since the 1990s.
Dial-up internet was mentioned, but users also brought up other activities that I hadn’t thought about since the 1990s. I never thought I’d feel nostalgic about calling a movie theater for showtimes, but it just goes to show how things change.
