25 Hilarious Times Kids Didn’t Know The “New” Music They Were Into Was Actually From The 80s & 90s

Music is powerful. It can trigger emotions and memories, and it can take you right back to a time and place where you heard it for the first time.

A fact of life is every generation will have its popular music, and you’ll probably roll your eyes at much of it, but that’s okay. It’s not made for us, we’ll always have our favorite groups from when we were growing up. I think part of keeping that alive is introducing our favorites to kids today.

Who knows, they may surprise you and already like them! Jeff Sharlet found out his 13-year-old discovered The Cure, and it inspired a lovely thread of others sharing similar revelations in his viral thread.

Few days shy of 50 and when I ask my super goth 13-year-old what they're listening to they tell me it's a band I probably don't know called The Cure.

@JeffSharlet My daughter excitedly discovered Nirvana. I saw her soul leave her body when I told her I'd seen them in concert.

@JeffSharlet LOL - I started singing with a song on the radio one day and my oldest son looked at me with big eyes, "Mom, you aren't supposed to know my music!" He didn't realize it was MY music first.
