The Airbnb villain arc has been captivating to watch.
The story of the app that allows people to rent out their houses to strangers is a classic fall from grace. What was once hailed as the future of hotels has been continually criticized for exorbitant prices and insane rules from hosts, such as insisting guests clean the property thoroughly before charging them a cleaning fee anyway. Airbnb has even been accused of perpetuating the housing crisis as rich folks buy up houses with the sole purpose of renting them out through the app.
It’s also got lousy customer service, leaving guests to the mercy of their hosts.
Twitter user Brandon (@brandonhli) posted a live thread documenting his terrible experience at an Airbnb in London. Despite warning his host that they would be arriving late, his party still found themselves locked out of the property. At 3 AM. In the rain. Neither the host nor Airbnb were any help — until the thread went viral.
Keep going for his Airbnb nightmare, updated as it happened, plus reactions from the rest of the internet.
