This Olympic athlete is in peak physical condition but still faces criticism about her body. When one viewer commented that she must have a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 30%, she clapped back with some facts.
Known for her strength and athletic prowess, Ilona has used her platform to confront body shaming head-on. In response to derogatory comments about her physique, she has consistently emphasized the importance of body positivity and self-acceptance.
Ilona highlights that her body, regardless of its shape or size, is powerful and capable of incredible athletic feats. Her message is clear: self-worth should never be measured by societal standards of beauty.
By addressing the issue directly and promoting a healthy, positive self-image, Ilona Maher is not only standing up for herself but also encouraging others to embrace their bodies and focus on their strengths.

In reply to a hateful comment about her BMI, Maher pointed out that BMI is an outdated and inaccurate measure of health, especially for athletes.
In a reel posted on Instagram that has since been viewed over 11 million times, she highlighted how BMI doesn’t account for muscle mass, body composition, or the overall fitness level of individuals.
“I think you were trying to roast me, but it’s actually fact, I do have a BMI of 30. Well, 29.3.”
She has shared personal insights and experiences, demonstrating that despite having a BMI that might classify her as overweight or obese, she is in peak physical condition.
“BMI doesn’t tell you what I can do, what I do on the field, how much muscle I have,” she said.
Maher emphasized that BMI fails to consider the different body types and the specific physical requirements of various sports.

Her advocacy has encouraged a broader understanding of health and fitness beyond simplistic and often misleading metrics like BMI, promoting a more holistic and individualized approach to assessing physical health.
Maher added that she has over 170 pounds of lean muscle mass.
“Do that math in your head… you probably can’t,” she said in reply to the rude commenter, concluding, “But alas, I’m going to the Olympics, and you’re not.”
