Sometimes, the best type of friendship is one in which you can go months — even years — without seeing that person, but when you are finally reunited, you pick up right where you left off.
In this hilarious and heartwarming video making the rounds on TikTok, an Uber driver shares the moment he realizes the passenger he’s picked up is a long-lost friend.
The wholesome moment the stranger in his backseat transforms into an old pal tugged at the internet’s heartstrings and reminded all of us to reach out to a friend we’ve lost touch with.
An Uber driver picked up a passenger, not realizing it was an old friend he hadn’t seen in 20+ years
In the viral clip, which has received around 10 million views at the time of publication, an Uber driver named Danny picks up a passenger, completely unaware of the heartwarming reunion right around the corner.
The two men make friendly small talk about the weather. How the driving is going. Standard Uber conversation stuff.
But the passenger, a man named John, is giving Danny a strange look — he’s realized something the driver hasn’t.
The small talk turns into an excited reunion as the passenger recognizes the driver
John is almost certain he knows Danny. But he has to make sure.
“What’s your name, man?” he asks.
“My name’s Danny,” the driver replies, still not recognizing the stranger in the backseat.
“Man, I know you,” John says. “You don’t know me?”
With that, Danny slows down the vehicle, looks over his shoulder, and erupts into excited expletives as the two share a laugh and dap each other up.

The two knew each other from their time working at a nightclub and have rekindled their friendship since the surprise Uber encounter
According to PEOPLE, the men became friends in the late 1990s while working at a Dallas nightclub called Phenomenon.
“He was just nice, laid back, chill, and just probably one of the best people that I’ve ever met,” Danny said.
“Danny was always cool with me,” John adds. “We always enjoyed each other’s company and got along.”
But when one of them stopped working there — neither can remember who left the job first — the friendship faded and they lost touch.
Danny says that drivers can’t see the photo of a passenger before pick-up. Still, he had a strange feeling of familiarity when John’s name popped up for his final ride of the day.
“I thought for a brief second, ‘Do I know this guy?’ ” he said.
But then he thought: “‘No, it can’t be. I don’t know anybody here [in this part of Texas].'”
Since the surprise reunion, the two have exchanged phone numbers and met up for drinks.
The internet was overjoyed by the impromptu reunion
