Many of us have had a teacher that stood out in our lives. Who believed in us when no one else did, went above and beyond to help us, or made learning fun and engaging.
Chayce McCoy, a high school graduate from Fort Wayne, Indiana, made a wholesome gesture to honor his favorite teacher, Renee Sigmon, by getting a tattoo of a note she wrote for him.
The story of Chayce and his tattoo has touched many hearts and gained considerable attention online.

Chayce’s journey through high school was fraught with challenges. As a freshman, he struggled with his mental health and often felt lost.
It wasn’t until he was introduced to a two-year culinary program at Carroll High School that things began to turn around for him.
This program led him to Renee Sigmon, a teacher specializing in family and consumer sciences, who became a significant source of support and inspiration for him.
“That’s when things started to change for me,” McCoy said. “Renee provided immediate support both mentally and academically; she never gave up on me.”

During his sophomore year, Chayce joined the culinary program, where Sigmon’s influence extended beyond teaching him culinary skills.
She helped him build confidence and discover his passion for cooking. Under her guidance, Chayce learned essential life skills and developed a sense of purpose. He credits Sigmon for helping him become a better person and a more skilled chef.
As graduation approached, Chayce wanted to do something special to show his gratitude. He asked Sigmon to write him a note of encouragement, which she gladly did.
The note read, “Never let anyone dull your sparkle, always live your truth, and continue to fight for what you believe.”
Touched by her words and their significance, Chayce decided to get the note tattooed on his chest as a permanent reminder of her impact on his life.

The moment Chayce revealed the tattoo to Sigmon was emotional.
She was moved by his gesture and proud of the young man he had become.
“I had no idea he was getting a tattoo,” Sigmon said. “I wanted him to have something that would remind him to always fight for what he believes in and to do the right thing.”
