“No Wonder Chips And Salsa Fill Me Up” — Waitress Reveals ‘Embarrassing’ Truth Behind Restaurant Tortilla Chips

I don’t know who needs to hear this but tortilla chips come from tortillas.

Like, they take a big stack of uncooked tortillas and chop them up into triangles, fry them, and put them in a bowl with a side of salsa.

It’s one of those things that’s right in front of you but you may not realize it. Hey, I’m not here to shame you. We all have our blind spots.

For example, I didn’t realize until this week that the sunglasses brand Ray Bans got its name because it BANS the sun’s RAYS from your eyes.

So, yeah, even though tortilla is right in the name, a lot of people didn’t realize that tortilla chips are sliced tortillas.

That’s why this TikTok video uploaded by a restaurant worker under the handle @keliah707 has people seeing a complimentary bowl of chips and salsa in whole a new light.

This woman shared a TikTok video of herself making in-house tortilla chips at a Mexican restaurant

In the viral clip, which has been viewed over 1.7 million times and racked up over 155,000 hearts, Keliah films herself slicing tortillas to make chips before shuffling them around.

“My favorite part of working in a Mexican restaurant was cutting tortillas for chips,” she wrote in the video.

It’s a satisfying video to watch. But still, 1.7 million seems steep for such a simple concept, no?

Well, the reason the clip blew up is because many people never knew — or never really thought about — how fresh tortilla chips are made. And they were a bit disgusted with themselves for how many tortillas they’d been consuming.
