45 Incredibly Realistic Sand Sculptures From Mesmerizing Artist Andoni Bastarrika

Growing up in California, I spent a lot of time at the beach building “sand castles,” but let’s be honest—most of mine ended up looking less like cool sculptures and more like lumpy piles of wet sand with a few random shells stuck in for decoration. Building with sand is hard!

That’s why what Andoni Bastarrika is doing blows my mind. He started in 2010 with a simple mermaid, and it turned out he had this incredible hidden talent.

Now he’s creating insanely realistic sculptures that make my childhood attempts look like… well, a pile of sand. Check out his amazing work and prepare to be seriously impressed.
