For Melinda, a 35-year-old woman embracing her natural gray hair, a recent first date took an unexpected turn when her date’s opening remark left her stunned.
Melinda, who goes by @shelovesheranimals on TikTok, shared her experience in a video that has since garnered over 1.5 million views.
Dressed in what she described as a “super cute” outfit, she was taken aback when her date’s first words were, “Wow, you do have a lot of gray hair.”
She recounted, “I had told him ahead of time I was growing out my grays, but I was shocked it was the first thing mentioned.”

“I went on a date today wearing this. Super cute, right? Do you know what the first thing he said to me was? Wow, you do have a lot of gray hair. I looked really cute,” she says in the video.
“I’m growing out my gray hair, and I have started getting into dating after many years of being single,” she told Newsweek.
“My mom recently passed away and she always wanted to see me happy in a relationship; I think that is part of my motivation in dating now,” she continued.
In another clip, she mentions that she hasn’t been in a serious relationship in 8 years and thought it “would have happened by now.”
