Freelance Designer Politely Declines Free Work, Church Karen Responds “It’s Not Like You Have A Real Job”

There is always that one person who hears the word “freelance” and immediately thinks it means unemployed or works for “free”. And if you mention you work from home, suddenly they assume you are watching TV in pajamas all day with a laptop somewhere nearby. Sure, sometimes that is true, but that does not mean it is not real work.

In this story, a freelance graphic designer was asked by someone from their church to make a flyer for her daughter. The catch? It had to be free and quick. When the designer politely declined, the churchgoer got salty and said something along the lines of “It is not like you have a real job anyway.”

Because nothing says kindness and community like insulting someone’s career while asking for a favor. Keep reading to see how it all played out.
