I go through a lot of comics every week—some silly, some dark, some just plain weird—but every now and then I come across an artist whose work just clicks. Elisabeth McNair is one of those. Her single-panel comics have that perfect mix of clever, understated humor and just enough absurdity to catch you off guard.
You’ve probably seen her work in The New Yorker (or at least reposted somewhere with the watermark cropped off), but if you haven’t, you’re in for a treat. Here are some of my favorite comics from her—smart, funny, and always a little unexpected.
