I’ve been a fan of Graham Annable (AKA Grickle) for a while now—his comics have this perfect blend of dark humor, quiet weirdness, and that kind of punchline that sneaks up on you in a single panel. If his name sounds familiar, it might be because he’s also the co-director of The Boxtrolls and the creator of Puzzle Agent, which totally makes sense once you see his art—it’s got that same eerie, off-kilter charm.
His work feels like if Edward Gorey and Gary Larson got together for coffee and started doodling unsettling little jokes on napkins. Here are some of my favorite comics from him: clever, creepy, and just the right amount of messed up.
