I’ve gone thrifting more times than I can count and walked out with nothing but regret and the faint smell of someone else’s attic. I’m genuinely envious of the people who treat thrift stores like treasure hunts and actually find treasure.
The folks in the r/ThriftStoreHauls subreddit are built different. They walk in and come out with something incredible every time. It gives me hope that maybe, one day, I’ll stumble across a gem of my own. Until then, I’ll continue to live vicariously through these secondhand success stories.
1. “Repurposed this $2 vintage cookie jar that was missing it’s lid”
2. “Found a $20k range at local thrift store”
“Found this Thermador at a local thrift store and took a chance on it. According to the workers they picked it up from a house locally in a very wealthy area and the people were ‘upgrading’ and just donated this.
This was by far my most expensive thrift store purchases and I am aware its a gamble but it did come with a 30 day warranty; plus even if it has issues it was 95% off from its original price of almost $20k and luckily I’m handy so I should be able to fix any potential issues (fingers crossed).
I took the gamble because I have always wanted a really high end range for my kitchen however I could never spend or justify spending crazy stupid money on one.
While $1000 isn’t cheap it’s certainly better than $20k. Additionally it was extremely clean and appears to have been well taken care of.”
3. “Somehow I found the matching mask 5 years later at a different thrift store in the same city. Comedy and Tragedy are finally reunited.”
4. “I’ve been trolling marketplace for a classic turtle sandbox. I didn’t know what I really wanted until I found it”
“Had no idea the frog even existed. It’s apparently 20 years old but in perfect condition for $30.
Was planning to put sand in it but I had these balls from my little’s first birthday so it’s a ball pit for now. I love him”
5. “One of my most recent fav finds. Makes a good door stop & window watching buddy for my cat”
6. “Found a hamburger phone at Goodwill today”
7. “Unicorn I couldn’t afford”
“$250 at this shop. Loved but not enough”
8. “I have to throw this strawberry pot away because it was positive for lead :(“
“It’s so cute, but I can’t afford to get lead poisoning right now”
9. “Got this vintage dress for $5 at a garage sale!”
“They don’t make ‘em like they used to!! The top is fully smocked and the skirt has SO much fabric. Can’t wait to wear this forever and ever!”
10. “Told myself I could get a nice $300 messenger bag after I got promoted. Found this $500 one at Goodwill for $8 instead.”
11. “I found an Alexander Kalifano gemstone globe at Goodwill for $100”
“I’ve wanted one for decades!”
12. “Just thrifted the most insane mcm table for $26”
13. “Could not release fast enough”
14. “For $3, I’m the proud owner of the coolest piece of flimsy 1980s plastic I’ve ever seen”
“It’s a promo wall clock from 1988 for Tony’s Pizza, so incredibly cheaply made but so cool, a great addition to the hallway”
15. “Left it, couldn’t stop thinking about it, went back for it.”
16. “Cool metal dinosaur I bought for $3 at a garage sale!”
17. “Guys, it’s crazy how much seratonin you can buy for $5 at Goodwill!”
18. “Okay Goodwill, I forgive you.”
“Lately, I’ve been losing the joy of thrifting because my Goodwill has been filled with fast fashion and refuses to return things like a picture frame because it’s labeled as Furniture.
Until there it was… the only thing on the bottom shelf of a cart they were rolling out as I was walking out the door. The white whale I’d given up on years ago. A Le Creuset 7.25 ounce Dutch Oven.
The odds that someone didn’t realize what they were giving away AND a second person didn’t realize what they’d been given before it made its way to me seem almost impossible to believe. I’ve never taken such absolute pleasure in cleaning the grease off of a pot.”
19. “The magical coat found in a thrift store in Lisbon”
“The tag is very worn but it looks like it might’ve been made for Paris fashion week. The buttons and patchwork are super cool. It makes me feel like I could be a wizard, but a cool and casual one of course.
The only thing is it doesn’t have pockets. I’m thinking of taking it to get them added.”
20. “I gasped when I saw it and I squealed with delight when I plugged it in.”
21. “Achievement unlocked”
“This has been a white whale piece I finally own a tiffany style lamp! I just so happened to open marketplace to find a lamp I loved staring at me for the right price and local and I couldn’t pass it up!
Paired with the STUNNING bookends my husband got for me for our anniversary im dead.
I originally saw the bookends on a thrift haul tik tok and was determined to get them somehow one day and here he found it easy peasy.
Excuse me while I go swoon over my night stand ahhhhhhh!!!!!!! Don’t give up friends!!”
22. “No brainer”
23. “Popcorn duck!”
“I named him Alfredo (cause why wouldn’t I?) and he operates with hot air.
His little top hat serves as a measuring cup (of course) and the popcorn is done in 3 minutes tops (I know, making popcorn usually doesn’t take that long to begin with, but still!). Super easy to clean too, cause he doesn’t require the use of oil.
On the box it says “as seen on TV” and also “famous for the popcorn diet” which is absolutely hysterical to me.
Not sure what year the machine is from, but I’m guessing the 90s.”
24. “I found Faberge Odessa Hock Wine Glasses at Goodwill.”
“I paid $350 for them. Unfortunately, the set is missing the light blue…”
