Like most angsty white teens in the early 90s, heavy metal was among one of my core “phases” not just musically, but also style-wise. Wasn’t old enough for tattoos then, but I pierced my ear and painted my fingernails black.
Ozzy Osbourne was the precursor to that era of Megadeth and Metallica, yet somehow, even as a veteran, was louder, weirder, and more human than most rock gods.
So when news broke that he had passed away Tuesday at the age of 76, it hit hard. His family shared that he died surrounded by love, following a decades-long battle with Parkinson’s. Just weeks ago, he reunited with Black Sabbath for one final performance—the first in 20 years. It really did feel like the end of an era.
