Growing up, I always wanted a hamster. Not a dog, not a cat…a hamster. Unfortunately, my mom had a very real, very serious fear of rodents, so that dream was shut down fast.
No wheel squeaks in the night, no tiny paws stuffing cheeks like they were prepping for winter. Just me, looking longingly at the pet store hamster wall like it was an unattainable luxury.
So now, as an adult who can technically make his own decisions (in theory), I settle for the next best thing: staring at adorable hamster pics on the internet. And honestly? Zero regrets.
These little guys are fascinating. Hamsters can store food in cheek pouches that stretch all the way back to their shoulders. They run several miles a night on their wheels because they’re nocturnal cardio freaks. Some species don’t even blink with both eyes at the same time. Nature is wild.
