20 Employees Share How They Got Petty Revenge On Their Worst Coworker
I’ve worked a lot of really awful jobs in my past. I made a lot of friends with coworkers in the trenches, but there was always at least one employee who just plain sucked.
Petty revenge is just one of the perks of working a bad job. The anger of wasting your life working somewhere you hate has to go somewhere. That coworker you hate will do just fine.
The employees in this post all have one thing in common. They got sweet petty revenge on their worst coworkers. There are their stories.
1.
“Set all Novell passwords to expire in 1 week. Quit job.”
2.
“Two guys used to pick on me relentlessly so I used to go in early and spray raccoon urine on their chairs in their office (shared).”
3.
“A friend got promoted and turned into a bad person, bossing everyone around and upsetting people in our berthing. I secretly hid a small noise-making device in his rack, which drove him crazy for weeks.”
4.
“I quit, moved, got a better job, and never saw them again. I don’t know about you, but it was wildly satisfying for me.”
5.
“I discovered some coworkers were committing financial fraud at a college. After they treated me poorly for knowing too much, I gave the Department of Education a backup of the database with all the evidence. The school was shut down, one person went to jail, and the others now face trial.”
6.
“A coworker mooched all night, insulted people, and finally yelled at the host when she told him to leave. I offered to drive him home, pulled over on a “shortcut,” asked him to check the tire, and drove off.”
7.
“A coworker was a bad person, he even filed a complaint on me for not holding an elevator. So every few weeks, I removed his car’s hubcaps until he became completely paranoid and kept buying replacements. By the time I left the job, I’d collected dozens, and he never figured out who kept outlasting him.”
8.
“A coworker wouldn’t stop making comments about my mom and then kept teasing me about my dating life for years. After a breakup, he took it way too far with unsolicited advice, so I staged a prank that made him think I was dating his daughter. He confronted me immediately and after that, he never brought up my mom or my personal life again.”
9.
“After giving notice at a family-owned computer company, the owner made my last two weeks miserable. When I left, I changed all the internal network passwords to “I don’t know.” When they asked for them, I honestly told them the truth.”
10.
“One coworker kept doing bad things to me, and management did nothing. So I forwarded some of his secret messages to his wife, glued “DON’T TOUCH ME” signs to his car, and let down his tires. I lost the job, but he never messed with me again.”
11.
“Someone kept stealing my lunch at work, and I am mentioned it to my wife. These were sandwiches SHE made for me every day. She decided to make a special one which consisted of bread and tooth paste. I put it in the fridge and after lunch it was gone. I told HR about it and they gave me a $20 gift card to outback steak house.”
12.
“The best I could do was change my colleague’s computer wallpaper.”
13.
“I exposed a clueless VP just before they tried to eliminate my position. She floundered without me for nine months, and then I returned as a part-time contractor at four times my original pay.”
14.
“A coworker constantly tried to belittle me with macho posturing and emails. One day I fired back with a clever “reply all” and shut him down. Six months later, I was promoted to head of the team and he was gone.”
15.
“A coworker spent hours playing games instead of working. One day she left her PC logged in, so I changed her game shortcut to open a Wikipedia page on work ethic. She hasn’t played games at work since.”
16.
“I worked with a coworker who bragged about doing terrible things, but I mostly ignored him. One night I caught him selling pills and reported it to the owner. He was gone within hours.”
17.
“Two coworkers kept messing with my desk and talking about me behind my back. I set up my laptop camera and caught them on video doing it. I took the footage to HR, and both ended up facing consequences while I later moved on to a much better job.”
18.
“Simple. Posted an ad on Craigslist for an insanely good deal for a 42″ Plasma. Left co-worker’s office, cell, and email as ways to get in touch.”
19.
“When my dad was a teenager working at a soda fountain, this older kid would come in every day for a shake and would just treat my dad badly. Finally my dad got fed up and laced his shake with half a box of X-Lax.”
20.
“I worked nights at a group home and had a coworker who regularly fell asleep on shift. After repeated concerns, our manager finally caught her asleep. She was let go soon after.”
