Artist Loses Live Painting Competition, Judges And Organizers Admit They Were Biased

I’ve been making art long enough to know it’s never been the easiest way to make a living, but lately it feels like it’s getting harder from every direction.

Between AI flooding the space and undercutting real artists, the last thing you expect is for an actual art competition to make things even worse. But here we are.

In this Reddit post, an artist shares how they entered a local competition, only to run into a situation that left them feeling completely burned.

There was no entry fee, but participants were required to buy their own materials while the event apparently presented it as if everything had been provided.

On top of that, the whole experience left them questioning the fairness and legitimacy of the competition itself.

As an artist, it’s the kind of story that hits a nerve. We’re already fighting to be taken seriously in a world that’s increasingly automated. We don’t need shady competitions making it even harder.
