If you spend as much time online as I do, you know the feeling. My job keeps me plugged into the internet all day, every day, and let me tell you: the negativity adds up. Doomscrolling isn’t a hobby for me, it’s an occupational hazard.
So a while back, I made myself a rule — every day, no matter what, I go looking for something genuinely good to balance the scales. Something that reminds me the internet can still be a warm, funny, delightful place.
Wawawiwa Comics is one of my most reliable sources of exactly that.
The series is the work of Andrés J. Colmenares, a Colombian cartoonist, author, and illustrator who has been making these comics since 2009, growing Wawawiwa from a personal project into an internationally recognized series spanning books, merchandise, and publishing partnerships.
His comics star anthropomorphic food, objects, and animals inspired by life and family — think anxious pasta, supportive sharks, and a very sweet Earth-and-Moon duo.
Andrés has described his work as “a big visual hug that tickles you at the same time,” and honestly, that’s the most accurate description I’ve ever heard.
He’s also published several books, including When Sharks Attack with Kindness, A Great Big Visual Hug, and Peculiar Woods, if you want to keep some of that warmth on your shelf instead of just your feed.
