TikTok has spent years handing out new insecurities like free samples at Costco, so it’s nice to see the app occasionally reverse course.
The latest wholesome trend has people sharing the distinctive features that give someone “wabi-sabi.” You’ll see crooked smiles, scars, strong noses, birthmarks, freckles, and all kinds of details that might normally get erased by a beauty filter.
Wabi-sabi comes from a much broader Japanese worldview about accepting imperfection, change, and simplicity. TikTok has turned the phrase into a compliment for the little things that make someone uniquely beautiful.
