22 Construction Fails No Inspector Should’ve Approved
My uncle spent thirty years as an electrician and he has exactly one philosophy about the trades: everybody’s faking it, some people are just better at hiding it. He said this to me while standing next to a deck he built that’s been “temporarily” propped up with a car jack since 2019.
That’s construction in a nutshell. Somewhere between the permit and the finished product, confidence takes over where competence left off, and the result gets slapped with a coat of paint and called done. Stairs that go nowhere. Windows installed sideways. A door that opens directly into a wall. Someone signed off on all of it.
These people who committed these construction fails treated “measure twice, cut once” as more of a suggestion.
