I’ve been on the road a lot lately, and I keep pulling off at fast-food places even though I barely eat fast food when I’m home. I guess after a few hours of driving, a burger starts to sound like a reward.
The other day, I stopped at McDonald’s and couldn’t get over how dull it looked. I remember going there as a kid and feeling like I’d arrived somewhere fun. The colors were brighter, the dining rooms had character, and even the booths seemed like part of the experience. Now I walk in, order from a screen, and wonder if I accidentally stopped at a bank that sells fries.
Maybe some of that is just being a kid. But looking at these old fast-food photos, I think the restaurants really did used to have more personality.
