25 Expensive Mistakes That Hurt To Look At And Cost Even More To Fix
Breaking something you already own is such an annoying way to spend money. You’re paying to get back to where you were ten seconds ago. Just a few hundred bucks for the privilege of having a working thing again.
I can handle a small repair bill, but I’ll still spend the rest of the day thinking about what else I could’ve bought with that money. Usually dinner. I tend to compare very unexpected expenses to dinners I can no longer buy.
These expensive accidents and mishaps from Reddit’s r/Wellthatsucks would throw off considerably more than my dinner plans. I feel bad for everyone involved, especially the people who couldn’t have prevented it. Hopefully, taking a picture helped, because I doubt checking their bank account did.

2. “I accidentally broke a stress ball.”

3. “I accidentally left a mirror in my car and this is what happened”

4. “I baked my AirPods along with my choc chip cookies.”

“I turned the oven on to preheat it. 3 min later I removed the oven tray to put it into the kitchen island so I can line it with cookie dough. It didn’t feel very hot, yet the AirPods that were on the kitchen island presumably attached to it. When I opened the oven after baking for 10 min, there was an abnormal cookie.”
5. “Spilled a whole can of paint on my wooden floor… What now?”

“So, this just happened. I accidentally knocked over a full can of paint, and now it’s all over my wooden floor. I’m freaking out a bit and could use some advice. What’s the best way to clean this up without damaging the wood? Any help would be really appreciated!”
6. “My son got locked in the bathroom”

“My son (15) got locked in the bathroom when we were all out at work. Didn’t have a phone on him. The door handle had fallen off and he couldn’t open it or call anyone. He used the bathroom scales to smash through the door and climbed out through this hole.
Update: for anyone asking, he’d been in there for about 40 minutes first, he knew we wouldn’t be back from work for hours. The windows have a bracket so they don’t open beyond a small gap. The door simply wouldn’t open any other way, he had no tools etc
Update: thanks to all the people who can see the funny side. I don’t judge his character based on breaking a cheap door when he couldn’t get out of a bathroom he would have been stuck in for hours. He’s a wonderful young man.”
7. “Saw this in my communal laundry room…”

8. “Been breathing this for almost a year.”

“We bought a house almost a year ago (house was built in the 1990s). Recently discovered a small leak under our HVAC unit inside. While looking for the issue I took off the cover and discovered this monstrosity of mold growing in and around the blower motor. It’s been nice knowing y’all”
9. “Bought $350 worth of groceries yesterday, that plus more is all ruined.”

“Just got home from work and was about to cook dinner when I noticed an odd smell in the garage. Went to open the freezer and it was already open, about $400 worth of meat, veggies and all other kinds of food are all thawed and mush. Probably been open for about 24 hours when we got back from the store yesterday.”
10. “My partner accidentally dropped a knife on my foot, severing a tendon. I had to have surgery.”

“Meant to to make my third payment on my new (to me) car, must have hit the pay full amount button and didn’t notice until I got the congratulatory email that my car had been paid off.”
20. “Accidentally super glued my phone to the marble”

“Some superglue had spilled where I usually put my phone and I hadn’t realized and I put my phone down. Well, it still works I guess
The full story is that my gf moves a lot when she sleeps and she happened to have a superglue bottle next to the marble counter near her bed (she was fixing a bracelet with it the night before) and she knocked it over during her sleep and I didn’t realize it (the bottle was not there, it fell to the ground). I placed my phone there when I was half asleep and it got stuck screen side up. I tried pouring acetone under it and waited around 10-20 minutes. Then we tried to pry it open with a letter opener and it snapped
Update: Thankfully the repair cost did not come up too high. Cameras are intact and only the backplate is damaged so only the backplate will be replaced”
21. “Must’ve been higher than 12′”

25. “Good thing you caught it early.”
