I’ve been on both ends of a wrong-number text numerous times. It’s way more fun to receive one. Being the sender is incredibly embarrassing, especially when you’ve already sent a follow-up.

When I get a wrong number text, I immediately start thinking about the possibilities. I have so much power in this situation. I could cancel an appointment. I could approve somebody’s vacation. I could be a responsible adult and tell them they have the wrong number. Usually, I chicken out and never respond, hoping they figure it out themselves. Then I feel guilty, which seems unfair. I didn’t type the number wrong. Why am I suddenly responsible for making sure a stranger gets to the dentist?

I wish I had the time and confidence to reply the way these folks did. These funny wrong-number text replies are what happens when someone commits to a conversation I would’ve spent the afternoon avoiding.
