Our New Favorite Instagram Account: @primawesome (15 Pics)

I thought it was time to give Pleated Jeans’ very own Mike Primavera (aka @primawesome) his 15 minutes of fame by featuring him in this week’s Our New Favorite. He is, after all, very funny.

I had the opportunity, neigh, privilege, to catch up with Mike and ask him more about his popular Instagram account, and, well, before we get to the jokes, here’s what he had to say:

PJ: What particular mental illness made you want to put yourself out there on the internet?

Mike: I’m a classic case of “didn’t get very much attention as a child.” I think most people dealing in comedy are trying to fill that void. I want attention from strangers and for friends and loved ones to leave me alone. Not sure if that’s a mental illness, but I am currently living alone in the woods. So, yeah.

PJ: What’s the creepiest DM you’ve ever gotten from a fan?

Mike: I actually know the exact one. It was both the creepiest and the sweetest DM ever. This:

PJ: Do you think you need to have had a messed up childhood to be funny?

Mike: I go back and forth on this one. I didn’t have a horrible childhood but it for sure wasn’t great. I 100% developed a sense of humor as a defense mechanism, as most do. As I’ve gotten older I’ve started to abandon the whole “I need to be suffering to be funny” attitude. I’m pretty happy these days and it hasn’t hurt me one bit.

PJ: What was your introduction to comedy?

Mike: My mom loved British comedy so I watched a lot of that early on. Lot’s of Monty Python and Blackadder. I think those shaped my jokes in a huge way. Always been a fan of both dry and silly humor.

PJ: What’s the endgame? Why do you do this?

Mike: The sad answer is: I would probably still tweets all this crap if I had no followers. I just like writing jokes.

The hopeful answer is: I continue to make money writing so I don’t have to go back to working a real job. This is my only transferable life skill. I’ve been fired from everything else.
