After watching the recent first season of Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power (which was great, but more on that later) I’ve been working my way through the Lord Of The Rings trilogy for probably the eleventy-ith time.
I’m not what exactly is so comforting about rewatching a long saga I’ve seen so many, many times before, but one quote I think about a lot when the world is going to Mordor in a handbasket:
“I wish it need not have happened in my time,” said Frodo.
“So do I,” said Gandalf, “and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.”
This is a solid reminder that we only get the time and circumstances we’re given and can either rise to the occasion or do a Boromir. I don’t know, maybe sappy, but I think insights like that are one of the reasons I keep rewatching LOTR.
Another reason though, is a steady stream of Lord Of The Rings memes longer than the life of an elf, and the internet keeps bringing these funny LOTR jokes, so every little while we hop in and refresh our list of the best.
