Good woodworking is so satisfying to watch. The precision. The skill. The detail. All of it. I’ll watch woodworking videos and look at cool woodworking pics for hours, but have never once tried. I live in a studio apartment that can only fit one piece of wood. So, for now, this will have to do.
1. Imagine the look on my face when my boss said “you’ll be the lead carpenter on this stair job” when I had never made a single tread before. Lots of work by lots of people, I can’t take all the credit, but damn if I didn’t pour my blood and sweat into this staircase.
2. Quit my job as a software developer about six months ago because I hated sitting at a desk all day. Started woodworking full time, this was my first major job, finally finished.
3. My first violin is finished!
4. Carved An Owl, A Bit Different
5. My latest piece made from clear cedar scraps from a deck we built not long ago. A little V-day gift for my wife.
6. Trim detail I did around the air duct when I redid my bathroom. As I was laying it out I despised the duct being there, but now I think it’s a pretty cool feature of the bathroom. What do you guys think? Yay or nay?
7. Built some stairs down to the ocean, and a drinking spot halfway down.
8. A little under cabinet spice drawer I built. So satisfying and it really makes finding the right spice a breeze.
9. Stems are faired into the hull. One more sand and I can start glassing.
10. Old piano to bookcase using the lid as a back.\
11. Finally finished this baby gate you all helped me with a couple of months ago. A lot of weekend hours. I’m very proud of my first hardwood project!
12. I carved this Hellboy cigar holder out of mahogany.
13. Maple and walnut ice cream bars.
14. I am easily sidetracked when in my shop. Cherry and walnut.
15. Asked my 3-year-old to help make a cutting board for her Grandpa’s birthday. So she designed it and then we made it.
16. One of the most sentimental pieces I’ve ever done. So made this wedding ring for a friend of mine. The 3 wood are made from 3 drum sticks, his late father’s stick, his first stick, and his 2-year-old son’s first stick, on a stainless steel liner. What do you think?
17. My attempt at the mountain napkin holder. It’s a nice project to use up some scraps.
18. I built a bulldozer bed for my 2 y/o
19. A rare look at The Hobbit as a minimalist movie poster made from 8 different kinds of wood. I’m going on an adventure!
20. Just a girl with her first woodworking project ever! Now we have some spoiled chickens.
