Last month, Coldplay was trending, and it wasn’t because Chris Martin started rapping. At one of their concerts, the jumbotron zoomed in on a couple who looked suspiciously like they were having an affair.
The internet ran with it, receipts were pulled, memes were everywhere, and for about a week, it felt like half of TikTok was devoted to Coldplay Cheater Cinematic Universe updates.
The now-infamous “Coldplay couple” caught on the jumbotron last month.
Now, a post to r/Marriage is going viral for a different reason. One woman says her husband actually defended the infamous couple.
While the rest of the world was dunking on them, he was basically running their PR. And she can’t stop wondering what that says about him and maybe even their marriage.
Here’s what she wrote:
1. Her Husband Took the Coldplay Couple’s Side
2. He Said They Were Just Two Unhappy People Finding Comfort
3. And Here’s the Twist — He’s Cheated Before
4. Marriage Wasn’t the Plan Until His Affair
5. His “Damage Control” Was a Proposal
6. Things Have Been Fine… Until Now
7. One Comment Opened an Old Wound
8. He Felt Bad for Them Again After They Lost Their Jobs
9. She Feels Like He Accidentally Told on Himself
10. Now She’s Wondering If It’s Time to End Things
The post struck a nerve with Reddit, racking up hundreds of comments in no time. People were split between offering level-headed relationship advice and bluntly pointing out the red flags she might be overlooking.
Some took a compassionate approach, urging her to have an honest conversation with her husband before making any decisions. Others skipped the gentle delivery and basically told her to pack her bags.
And of course, there were a few users who brought some much-needed comic relief to an otherwise heavy thread.
