20 Times Hiring Managers Figured Out A Candidate Was Lying Mid-Interview

Add as a preferred source on Google

Hiring managers are not as easy to fool as people seem to think. They’ve heard every buzzword, spotted every suspicious pause, and yes they can absolutely see your glasses reflection during a video call.

They’ve watched candidates invent technical commands on the spot, Google answers in real time with zero subtlety, and in at least one case accidentally submit their interviewer’s own work as part of a portfolio. And most of the time they don’t even stop the interview. They just make a note and let it play out.

This AskReddit thread gave hiring managers a chance to share their best stories and they did not hold back. Interview fails by candidates who thought they were getting away with it. Spoiler: they were not.
