I cannot live without air conditioning and I’ve made peace with the fact that this is one of the most American things about me. Europeans love to bring this up, by the way. There’s a whole genre of conversation where someone from Germany or France or wherever explains, very calmly, that they don’t need air conditioning because they’re used to the heat and their homes are built differently, and it’s fine.
