‘I Think They Need Bigger Icons’ — People Can’t Get Over How Deeply Cursed This DMV Computer Screen Is
Government offices don’t exactly have a reputation for cutting-edge anything. The DMV specifically feels like it was grandfathered into a “no updates required” clause somewhere, running on the same energy as a fax machine that still works. But every once in a while, someone gets an actual look behind the counter, and it explains a lot.
This week, it’s a glimpse at the computer screen Twitter user @Eyoyism saw while at an Illinois DMV worker was using to process paperwork, and based on the internet’s reaction, “computer” might be generous.
The icons look like they were designed for a monitor the size of a postage stamp; the layout does absolutely nothing to help, and yet somehow, against all odds, people still walked out with their Real IDs. Bureaucracy works in mysterious ways.
