26 Therapists Share The Moment They Realized They Were Talking To A Sociopath
Therapists and counselors really have an incredible job. They sit alone in a room with people spilling their darkest thoughts, trying to help without knowing exactly where the conversation might go.
Seeking therapy is a good thing, but if you’re not willing to tell on yourself a little, it can quickly become a waste of everyone’s time. You have to admit that you might be part of the problem, which is difficult when your favorite hobby is blaming everyone else.
Then there are people who may not feel guilt, empathy, or remorse the way most of us do. I imagine one of the most unsettling breakthroughs a therapist can have is realizing the person sitting across from them has deeply troubling antisocial traits. Therapists probably need their own therapy after certain appointments.
In this AskReddit thread, therapists, counselors, and others who have worked closely with patients share the moments they realized they might be dealing with a sociopath.
A quick heads-up before you scroll: Some of these stories mention intense subject matter. Nothing light, but nothing you wouldn’t expect from a thread like this.
