31 Employees Who Quit Their Jobs In The Most Dramatic Way Possible

Add as a preferred source on Google

You can tell a lot about a workplace based on how loudly (or quietly) the employees quit. Quitting a job is almost always satisfying.

That instant relief is something I wish I could bottle. I’ve never made a big scene on my way out, but I’ve definitely rehearsed one in the car.

“We have all heard of “quiet quitting “ but what is your best example of “loud quitting” that you’ve seen firsthand?”

The people in these stories actually went through with it, and their coworkers are still talking about it.

1. He Showed Up Late From The Pool

“I worked at an office supply store years ago. Dude came in hours late on his last day, directly from the pool, with sunglasses on and a towel in hand. Like, what were they gonna do, fire him?”

2. She Used Every Day Of Leave She Had

“She called in sick every Thursday and Friday for two months to burn her sick leave. At the end of her sick leave burn, she took a two-month vacation to Costa Rica to burn her annual leave and sent our manager a pic from a beach, saying she was quitting the day before she was supposed to come back. Honestly, my idol.”

3. The Manager Owed Him Money

“I saw a coworker throw the manager through a window, then walk out and throw the manager back through it into the store. He told the manager, ‘I will keep doing this until the cops show up or you pay me the money you owe me.’ The manager wrote a check; no cops were called.”

4. She Left Her Uniform Behind

“I had a coworker who took her uniform shirt off, tossed it at the manager’s feet, raised both middle fingers to the crowded store, and stalked out of the place in only her bra. She was seriously iconic in that moment.”
— u/Sparky3281

5. He Quit Over The PA, Then Rolled Out

“My buddy quit his job over the PA and then scooted around the store on his Heelies, giving high-fives to coworkers and shoppers. He put a video of it on YouTube, got a few million views, used the money to start a mobile vehicle detailing business, and is currently thriving.”
— u/facepillownap

6. She Sent Her Resignation By Paper Airplane

“When I worked in cubicle hell, I saw a new hire send her ‘I quit’ note into her supervisor’s office via a paper airplane. Loved it.”
— u/GloriousRoseBud

7. The Chef Walked Out Mid-Argument

“I was a server at a fine dining restaurant. Our executive chef and the owner used to argue every day over all kinds of little things. We were used to it. They were the kind of dudes that would have a shouting match at 5 p.m. and be best friends again by 8 p.m. One day, they were having their daily argument and went into the office together. I don’t know what the owner said, but the chef came out and said, ‘Fuck you and this job.’ He then went to the bar, filled a pint glass 3/4 full of our most expensive vodka, and chugged it like it was water. Then he threw the glass across the dining room, where it shattered against the wall, and walked out. Luckily, this was before we were open to customers. The funniest thing is that the chef was so talented and hardworking that they rehired him like six months later, after two of his replacements quit. They couldn’t deal with the owner.”

8. The Baker Had A Message For The Manager

“A grocery store that I used to frequent had a bakery that did cakes with custom wording/images. I went in one morning, and every single cake said, ‘Screw you [store manager’s name]’ with various images on them. I knew the baker who showed up at 3 a.m. to make the cakes for the day and fulfill special requests; he HATED the job and was pulling 70-plus hour weeks for several months before he quit.”

9. The Taco Bell Crew Gave Out Free Tacos

“I once went through the Taco Bell drive-through, and when I got to the window, they said, ‘Hey, so, we’re all quitting today, so we’re gonna give you your tacos for free.'”
— u/ryoushi19

10. The Receiving Room Had A Warning Sign

“I probably should have taken the hint at my last job when they told me that the drywall was all fucked up because the last guy who worked in receiving smashed the pallet jack’s forks through the wall a bunch of times before storming out.”
— u/NativeMasshole1

11. Two Resort Employees Had Enough

“I worked at a resort, and the barman at the poolside bar grabbed himself a rum can out of the fridge. He walked to the edge of the pool, took a big swig, and yelled to all the customers that the management was a bunch of dicks and that they should spend their money elsewhere. To punctuate this, he did a cannonball into the pool and then walked out of the resort with his drink in hand. At that same resort, we had a douchebag guy send his steak back three times because it wasn’t well done enough (it was literally charcoal). When the plate went back the third time, we all heard a smash, and then the microwave was thrown through the pass. The sous chef walked out that night.”

12. The Boss Got A Sympathy Card

“I left a ‘sorry for your loss’ card on my boss’s desk.”
— u/driffson

13. One Phone Call Changed His Plans

“I worked with a guy who had a lawsuit against his old employer for wage theft. He won the suit and was hoping for a $2,000 settlement. We were having a normal day at the store when he got paged for a phone call. About two minutes later, in front of customers and one of the corporate bosses, we heard, ‘Adios, you miserable motherfuckers! I am out of here!’ He then ripped off his tie, handed it to a random customer, and said, ‘I hear that they’ll be hiring in audio; good luck on the interview!’
“He came back to where we were, and we were all ‘WTF, man?’ His lawyer had somehow totally outmaneuvered his old company and gotten him — after lawyer fees — $55K. The icing on the cake was that it counted as a standard paycheck-style employment payment. So a month later, when the company suddenly shut down, and we all got unemployment, he got to claim that for his wages for the last two quarters, which is what unemployment is based on. So not only did he have the money, he got a year of unemployment at the highest rate that the system would allow, which was like $1,200 a week, which was good money in 1998.”

14. An Office Chair Came Through The Window

“When I was walking into the office one day in the mid-2000s, an office chair came crashing out of a second-floor window. Apparently, an IT guy had it and launched a chair on his way out. I don’t think he meant for it to break through a window, but it did.”
— u/SandMan3914

15. His Exit Interview Was A PowerPoint

“A guy sent an entire PowerPoint deck to all of our top executives before he left, explaining everything wrong with the company. I saw pieces of it in other decks for like two years.”
— u/ButHowCouldILose

16. His Hat Went Into The Fryer

“Worked at a Burger King in high school. In the middle of a quiet Saturday afternoon, we were all just hanging around, and one of the guys who worked at the sandwich stations suddenly screamed — and I mean SCREAMED — ‘I can’t take this bullshit anymore! This is the worst fucking place anyone can work! Manager, all you do is harass me! Fuck this place!’ He threw his hat in the fryer and stormed out. We all stood there quietly, wondering what had happened to set the guy off. He was always pretty cool, and the manager was known for being very relaxed.”

17. The Manager Picked The Wrong Moment To Yell

“I worked at a sketchy bar as a cocktail server years ago. I showed up for my shift (the only night shifter on time), and the day shift girl had already quit because the manager was a dick. The place was already trashed, with empty bottles and glasses on tables everywhere. I got an order from a table, picked up a tray of empties on my way to the bar to dump those off, got the fresh drinks for my table, and delivered them. Rinse, repeat. The dick manager came out to scream at me about how the place was a fucking mess (I had been working for like 15 minutes at this point). I said fuck it, threw my tray full of empty beer bottles in his general direction, and walked out.”
— u/dontdid

18. Employee Appreciation Day Went Off Script

“I worked at a busy upscale grocery store. On Employee Appreciation Day, someone from the customer service team got on the overhead announcement speaker and said something along the lines of, ‘Attention all shoppers, this place sucks ass and I fucking quit!!’ She was escorted out by security, and two other people quit along with her as part of a coordinated effort. Put a bit of a damper on the employee hotdog BBQ being held outside.”
— u/yangpa5evr

19. The Theme Park Had A Quitting Problem

“I worked at a theme park back in the day, and they had such a problem with loud quitting that if you gave your two weeks’ notice, security would show up and escort you out halfway through your last day before you got the chance to have your grand finale. Lots of ‘fuck yous’ over the intercoms.”
— u/beckisnotmyname

20. He Took Recruiter Calls At His Desk

“My first job out of grad school, I was hired at a highly competitive company where new hires were brought in as temps. From the pool of temps, they would do rounds of hiring for full-time positions. When I didn’t get pulled up after nine months as a temp, I started loudly taking calls from recruiters at my desk, and I would book conference rooms to do phone interviews for jobs I applied to. I did not give a fuck, and everyone knew, lol.”

21. The Training Manual Set Her Off

“During the first 10 minutes of a training class for tech support at a tax software company, the instructor held up a printout of the tax code and said, ‘This will be your tax bible this season…’ A woman stood up and cut her off, full-voiced, screaming that the instructor was a blasphemer, slammed the manual to the ground, and screamed that there was only one bible and God would strike her down for her blasphemy. Then she swept out of the room and slammed the door; I could hear her still going off as she left. Everyone was silent for a moment, and then the instructor said, ‘OK. Moving on.’ We all laughed about it at the next break.”
— u/orgyofamusement

22. The Sandwich Was The Last Straw

“I worked at a sandwich chain last year and had this coworker who did great work. He was always on time and did his side work, but my GM didn’t like him because he always outperformed her. She would mock him, tell him to go faster, and make things difficult in general, until one day, while I was on break in the back, I heard, ‘You know what, Doreen? Fuck you, fuck this place, fuck this customer, and fuck this company.’ Then he threw the turkey bacon avocado sandwich at her and stormed out.”
— u/Major_Damsel

23. The Whole Store Quietly Quit

“This is one where the silence spoke very loudly. My friend worked at this video rental place in high school, and the boss was horrible. The employees organized a mass walkout. They waited until the boss left, gave him a minute to get down the road, made sure no one was in the store, locked up, and left. Even the kids not on shift quit as well, and they all agreed not to show up, not to answer calls from the boss, and to skip their last paychecks.”
— u/dcoble

24. The Stockers Walked Out Together

“I worked at a grocery store as a night stocker. One of the other stockers had a spouse who worked in the bakery. She dropped their kid off at a 24/7 day care when she came in at 4 a.m., and he got the kid when he got off work. One day, they got an emergency call that their kid was sick, and someone needed to be there ASAP. We had a new manager, fresh out of college with no life experience. The wife was the only bakery employee and couldn’t leave, so the stocker told the boss he had to go. We had maybe two hours left on our shift, and we could have easily picked up the slack. The young manager told the guy that if he left, he would be fired. 15 minutes later, every stocker in the store was gone.”

25. The Bass Player Left Mid-Song

“A bass player friend of mine once quit a band mid-song during a gig and walked off the stage, bass in hand, through the crowd. Kinda awesome.”
— u/Kiddinator

26. His Lunch Break Never Ended

“I worked with a guy who said, ‘Wouldn’t it be hilarious if I went to my lunch break and never came back?’ I said, ‘Yeah, it would.’ He went on his lunch break, and a while later I realized he never came back. I laughed so hard.”
— u/Bane444

27. The Manager Gave Him Two Options

“I worked at a chain BBQ place when I was in high school. I worked a closing shift, and the manager let all the other servers go home early without cleaning. Then told me I needed to do everyone’s work. I pushed back, and he said I could do it or quit, so I turned around and walked out. Insert surprised Pikachu face. He thought he could bully the high school dude. Nah, bro.”
— u/TheLostTexan87

28. He Returned The Uniform Immediately

“When a guy at my job quit, he was told he would have to come back to turn in his uniform, so he stripped and left in his underwear.”
— u/evil_nirvana_x

29. He Gave The Manager A Peace Sign

“I told my manager that if I came in the next day and the previous shift was on their phones and their end-of-shift work hadn’t been done, I’d walk out. He said, ‘Understandable.’ He was a cool guy but not a great manager. The next day I walked in, and the first shift was on their phones, and their end-of-shift work hadn’t been done. I flashed my manager a peace sign, he flashed me one, and I walked out. I got a nice reference from him for my next job, though.”
— u/ObeseTsunami

30. He Made His Exit Extra Slow

“I worked at a restaurant once, and at an all-staff meeting, I was called out for ‘walking too slow,’ which was honestly BS; people all throughout my life have said I walk too fast. I stood up and told them that I’m a foot taller than everyone else working here, so it just looks like I’m walking slowly because I need to take fewer steps than everyone else. I grabbed my stuff and walked out as slowly as possible.”
— u/UndergroundNotes1983

31. The Boss’s Desk Was Involved

“Dude took a dookie on the boss’s desk.”
